House in Dugadha

An old house made up of bricks and concrete, The house is owned by Mr and Mrs Saroaha and their son- Ankit. A ground plus one vernacular architecture house was made in 2004 by Mr Suresh Saroha's late father. This house is situated on the slope of Dugaddha village. This house play a crucial role in everyday activities of all the people of this village.

The house has a outside stair on the hall side through which all the ladies of the village carry all the utensil on head in a "tokri" and goes down near the river to wash the utensils.

The house had seen many years and emotions, it had been many years since any recovery to the walls, stairs etc was done. The Ankit's father had some loses in the past years and due to lack of financial resources. It has been postponing.

The festival was on the edge, We decided to do small changes that would be helpful to the members of our  house and other villagers. We decided to renovate the house starting with the removing the peeling from wall, The wall was quite damaged that it had to be repaired with the cement paste first then applied with the white washing.

We noticed that the common stair was in very bad condition, Edges were broken, there were bumps and many pits on the surface. Women of the villages used to carry heavy utensils on head, any disbalance could lead to unforeseen incident. There had been a minor incident in past where a young girl slipped on stair with utensil, she was saved by a ladies around, she had minor scratches but things could go wrong. We wanted to leave the place with basic safety required for day to day travel.

We started with surface smoothening and applied the concrete paste with plaster of paris to fix the pits and dangerously broken edges. Everything went as planned. The villagers were happy about that the stairs had been fixed. All the villagers could use for everyday activity of carrying the utensil safely and we made the house ready for the upcoming festive season
